Integrating Molecular Diagnostics with Clinical Care
In order to take full advantage of genetic testing, molecular diagnostics must become an integral part of clinical care. Translational Software’s PgxPortal integrates existing Electronic Medical Records systems (EMRs) and Practice Management Systems (PMS) with Lab operations. For molecular diagnostics laboratories it provides an additional layer of value-added interpretation that makes tests more useful.
Platform Demonstration
This three minute video demostrates the use of the PgxPortal for ordering genetic tests and interpreting their results with a Warfarin dosing algorithm.
Laboratory Links to Healthcare
Healthcare providers and laboratories have a wide variety of capabilities for communicating with each other. The Portal provides flexible ordering and report delivery capabilties through a web interface, smartphone application, or an integration engine for standards-based communications with Electronic Medical Records systems. Laboratories can also use the web portal or HL7 interface to their Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The Portal can support customized interfaces to other laboratory automation systems as well.
Interpretation of Genetic Data
Genetic test results present a special challenge for clinicians. With the number of analytes that genetic tests can provide it is no longer possible for a physician to understand the result by intuition alone. Translational Software's portal implements a specialized Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) that enables the transformation of raw test results into clinically actionable reports in several formats.
Laboratory Outreach Scenarios
- Doctors may order from smartphones, the portal, or an EMR
- Reports are deliverable to virtually any device
- Laboratories administer through the web-based portal interface
- Labs may process orders through the portal, or LIMS
- Reports can be created as PDF, HTML, or Microsoft Word documents
- LIMS may be integrated through HL7 or Custom interfaces
